Mrs. DeWall's 4th and 5th grade combo class really did a nice job today in art class. It was our first time meeting for the so we had a lot to talk about and boy did they listen. After taking care of classroom business we buckled down and studied some art from Africa, Nigeria to be exact. The 4th grade art curriculum stipulates we concentrate quite a bit on other cultures so we started with the first letter of the alphabet and we were off and running. The kids viewed many different kinds of Dashikis (African shirts) and we discussed the similarities and why this might a good clothing for such a climate. Students looked at traditional Nigerian prints and animals and created their own shirts in a traditional style. Here are a few pictures of the kids very deep in concentration.
